Eurovision 2018: Zibbz to represent Switzerland!

It was a six horse race for Switzerland this year, but as we all know, only one song can win. Last night the national final, Die Entscheidungsshow, took place, where the internally selected six participants took to the stage to perform their entries live.

Earlier in the national selection season we revealed the six artists participating as well as the studio versions of their songs. Overall, it was a fairly positive reception from Eurovision fans worldwide, who recognised that Switzerland were trying to bring their A-game to the competition.

The six competing acts were:

  • Zibbz – Stones

  • Angie Ott – A Thousand Times

  • Naeman – Kiss Me

  • Chiara Dubey – Secrets and Lies

  • Alejandro Reyes – Compass

  • Vanessa Iraci – Redlights

The voting for this year’s competition was a combination of jury and televote, with the jury consisting of members from Albania, Armenia, Germany, France, Iceland, Israel and Italy. Let’s go through the voting!

Starting with the jury votes, we saw Zibbz score four of the seven sets of 12 points, with Alejandro Reyes scoring two sets of 12, and Vanessa Iraci scoring one 12 pointer. Out of the six acts, the only performers to score points from all juries was Zibbz and Alejandro Reyes.

With the jury scores added up, Zibbz were leading with 76 points, with Alejandro Reyes not far behind on 72 points. It would be up to the public vote to choose their Eurovision representative, and as the public votes came in, it would be clear that Zibbz were going to be too hard to beat, as they received 77 points in the televote, with second place getter Alejandro Reyes receiving just 48.

This means that Zibbz will be representing Switzerland with the song Stones! Watch the lyric video as well as the live performance down below!
